Question 2: Will Insight ever provide full support to version 4 panels?
Answer:No, because Insight requires the Insight comms task, which was introduced in v5.

Question 3: Is there a Windows 95/98/ME/3.1/DOS version of Insight in the works?

It adds reporting, operator permissions and graphical floorplans. Insight Professional Demo is the same as Insight Professional, with the following restrictions: operator passwords are ignored, you can only see five items of each type (doors, areas etc.) and you are logged off after two hours.

Question 7: I can't open the Insight User Guide. What software do I need to read it?
Answer:To open the User Guide, download Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Question 8: Does this version of Insight support the Inner Range Ethernet UART board?

Answer:No. The Professional and Demonstration editions use different hardware keys.

Question 11: How can I get Lite and Professional to work on the same workstation?
Answer:You must first uninstall Insight Lite. If you want to keep the database, after the uninstall locate the Insight directory (normally C:\Program Files\Inner Range) and rename the Insight folder to InsightLite. Then install version 1.0.1 (or later) of Insight Lite and Professional.

    Known Issues

When pop-up message appears, Insight modules in the taskbar start flashing.

Symptom: When running several Insight modules, a pop-up message appears, then the other modules start flashing in the taskbar.

Description: When a pop-up message appears informing you of panel status, it appears once for every Insight module that is running. Due to Windows behaviour, this makes the taskbar flash for each module that is in the background.

Solution/workaround: Open each module, and click OK to dismiss the message.

My system tray icon says the database isn't running, but I can still log in.

Symptom: The Insight Server Tool shows the "server stopped" icon, even though Insight modules can still log on.

Description: The Insight Server Tool doesn't work properly if the active Windows user doesn't have administrator privileges. This is a known issue that will be resolved in a future release.

Solution/workaround: Ignore the icon displayed by the Insight Server Tool if you are not logged on to Windows with administrator privileges.

I've programmed up air conditioners, and now my panel fails a CRC check.

Symptom: If the mode of an air conditioner is set to anything but disabled, then the panel compare command fails.

Description: This is a known issue that will be fixed in a future firmware release.

Solution/workaround: Ignore comparison failures on air conditioner records.

I default a panel while it's online, now saving doesn't work properly.

Symptom: You connect to a panel, and while it is connected, default the panel and quickly reconfigure the Insight comms task.

Description: The panel does not break the connection when it is defaulted. This may be fixed in a future firmware revision.

Solution/workaround: If you want to default a panel, make sure you disconnect it in Insight first.

I can't connect to remote servers. Why? (Professional / Demo.)

Symptom: The client on machine A cannot connect to a server on machine B, even though the operator credentials are correct.

Description: This problem occurs if the client is logged in without Windows administrator privileges.

Solution/workaround: Log in to the client computer with Windows administrator privileges. Change the server address in Launch Pad client options. Then log in as the regular user account.

I can't get Insight Server to start. Why? (Professional / Demo.)

Symptom: The Insight Server Tool icon indicates that the Server is not running. Insight modules cannot log in.

Description: This problem will occur if the hardware lock drivers are not installed.

Solution/workaround: Ensure that the hardware lock is installed, and the red LED is illuminating. If necessary, manually install the hardware lock drivers off the Insight CD.

I connect via modem, but I can't get review or make changes to programming. Why?.

Symptom: With multiple paths configured, selecting auto-connect means the modem path connects, but doesn't appear to work.

Description: If an operator chooses 'auto-connect' and the serial path fails but the modem path succeeds, Insight appears to be connect but the connection is 'bad'.

Solution/workaround: To connect via modem do not use 'auto-connect', choose connect->internal modem. This will be fixed in a future release.

Upgrading from Insight v1.3 with a panel with 5.21 firmware

If you are upgrading to Insight V2.0 and panel firmware (or defaulting your existing firmware) at the same time the following information is for you.

Upgrade Insight first and only upgrade the panel firmware when instructed to as detailed below.

If your existing panel version allows RF Modules/RF Fobs, Insight V2.0 will detect it.

    1. With old Insight Upload all data from the panel.
    2. In INSIGHT EDIT make sure you do not have the panels properties set to auto connect to the panel at startup.
    3. Archive the database.
    4. Upgrade Insight.
    5. Start Insight edit.
    6. Lock the panel
    7. Connect to the panel. (If RF modules are detected, resolve excess/surplus in panel properties as needed)
    8. Also if RF modules are detected then depending upon your configuration Insight will automatically mark the first X number of users for upload from the panel to get the current data.
    9. Unlock the panel which will allow Insight to synchronise the panel to the database.
    10. Once the synchronise is complete, disconnect Insight.
Your Insight now has current RF module and fob programing
    1. Upgrade the panel firmware and default the panel to the correct memory configuration.
    2. Modify the now defaulted Insight comms task to match your Insight setup and create an IModem comms task if you intend to connect via modem.
    3. Connect Insight using Insight edit.
    4. If on a modem connection mark the IModem and Insight comms Tasks for UPLOAD and wait until the upload has finished.
    5. Mark the entire panel in Insight for download.
    6. Wait till all data is downloaded. (lock and unlock the panel if download stops)
    7. Done
Failure to follow this procedure will overwrite any users that are allowed to have RF fobs. This may destroy existing User data in the Insight copy of your panel programming.

    Changes to Multi-Workstation Licenses

With the release of Insight Professional V1.4, the Insight multi workstation (multi client) licensing scheme has been refined, and now workstation licenses are locked to individual PCs.

Upon the purchase of Insight Professional, Insight is only accessible from the server workstation and the license expires after 30 days. Upon registering Insight Professional, customers are issued with a Professional license and one workstation license. This will allow Insight to be accessed from the server workstation and one additional workstation. (These connections are not allowed simultaneously.)

If you require additional workstation licenses or a floating license please contact Inner Range.

If you are upgrading from previous versions of Insight Professional to version 1.4 you will need to contact Inner Range to obtain the free workstation license, or else Insight will only be accessible from the server workstation.

Once you have client licenses you cannot change the server computer without first requesting a removal license key from Inner Range. This will synchronise the client licenses on the new server.
